Coding tests are ridiculous, dated, and do nothing to gauge the ability of an interviewee.

My personal rant aside, I love this quote

"have the interviewer write the code and ask the interviewee to deep-dive it"

Good luck with that one, most interviewers I've experienced lack the ability to set up a calendar appointment or video call (they have it set up for them) let alone write actual code!
