I can't agree with you at all as the first priority for any developer should be themselves, their sanity, and how much they're paid and certainly not loyalty to any company.

Job hopping may have been perceived as a disadvantage in the age of 'jobs for life' but now for any progressive developer it's a way to gain experience quickly, do the things that you want to do, and get paid market rates for what you're doing.

Indeed, I'd recommend to anyone who's a true software developer (who loves computing rather than who's in it for anything else) to go contracting (freelancing) once they have enough experience and have carved out a suitable niche.

tl;dr Loyalty is one way, your life is more important than any company.
