I like to think that if a company cared that much about the people it employed then it would care about how it employed them.

I’ve turned down so many interviews, and a fair few second ones, when a surprise ‘coding test’ has come up. I also make a point of mailing the hiring manager and initial contact agent outlining while I feel its inappropriate and often demeaning to be treated as if I’m new new hire straight out of college.

I know that this doesn’t suit more inexperienced job seekers — and sometimes you have to jump through hoops as I said in the article — but the situation has to change and this is a way to start.
