I think you're right. There are too many people evalangelising particular languages as a panacea for every single problem when, logically and through experience, the solution is to use the best tool for the job.

I was taught COBOL (along with Pascal and C) as my first languages at college, now a long time ago, and could see even then that each language had a purpose. I still see that today, after untold decades of arguing about implementation in practice!
