Indeed, as said elsewhere in the comments you can rake in the cash as a programmer but it's a balancing act between getting yourself a good niche that you enjoy and not selling your soul purely for money and working on something you hate.

It's all about choices, compromises, and (in my opinion) - going freelancing equipped with a sense of humor.
