It’s generally widely misunderstood how much the electrical grid will have to be updated to support the number of public charging stations required to fully move to an EV based society let alone if everyone with a current ICE car decides to install a home charging point.
(I won’t get into a hydrogen economy as I believe that’s only feasible for larger vehicles as the infrastructure costs there are astronomical)
If we’re going to try to do this properly then some strategic decisions need to be made and not the kind of ad hoc move to fossil fuel that happened in the past lest we end up in a similar situation in the future in a few ways.
As I mentioned, perhaps we’re addressing the wrong issue merely replacing cars with more modern, less polluting — not counting the lithium — ones, and should think more about how the car should be removed from its central place in today’s modern world.
