It's just so divisive isn't it?

I'm more of the mind that we could make more significant reductions with say SAF for all of the flying we do (and replace much of the local journeys with just better high speed electric rail too) and replacing a significant part of marine fuel in the same way.

Hydrogen would work for bigger engines, just not for smaller vehicles as the infrastructure would be exorbitantly costly.

If we have limited resources we should deploy them in a more efficient way - thing is, money (profit) always seems to get in the way.

Money is truly the root of all right now, perhaps tackling that would be more beneficial long term. Hopefully cheap fusion power will go a long way down that road,
