Nice article. I'd had some success with Kindle publishing (under a few different pseudonyms) but it's always been at the kick off of a niche rather than trying to enter an already established market.

It's very hard to compete as an independent unless you've either got something incredibly different or radical to say or you're opening up or one of the first into a new niche as said.

On the other hand, if you're writing for the love of it (and as a lot of people say) if you want to write just go and write and publish anyway.

It's not always about the money, that's certainly a central tenet of writing for sure!
