Nuclear power needs aggressive investment, it's the only large scale carbon neutral way to generate sufficient power to leave fossil fuel behind.

I think the issue is with the immense amount of planning required then the guarantees to the generator in terms of prices.

Here's hopping planning can be relaxed with the advent of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and with them being located more or less anywhere the market can become more competitive and the era of subsidies can finally end.

Wind and solar, while they have their part, are irregular and we have great difficulties currently with storing their generated energy at a grid scale. Nuclear supplies a steady solution to large scale base load generation, there's just no competition.

Look at Ireland - lots of wind, some solar, but always burning massive amounts of imported gas. One nuclear reactor and a handful of grid storage batteries could easily solve that.

Look at Germany - shutting down nuclear has pushed them into being one of the biggest and most polluting coal users in the EU.
