Some good points there, and I'm saying that as someone who also has decades in the industry.

What worked for me, though I do still get mind numbingly bored from time to time, is to find a niche and get extremely good at it. Once you've got one, work on another, then another - and switch up the roles you chose between your niches.

Also, go freelancing, move around and spread the love - different companies, people, and cultures of operation. Politics? Move on. Never being disconnected? Charge by the hour.

Above all though, I try to keep things in perspective - most managers are absurd, project plans are ridiculous, and agile is the emperor with no clothes. Though, I don't always say it out loud, I'm thinking it.
