That's the thing, swapping jobs is the only way to get a realistic raise - pure and simple.

No matter what HR says, no matter what the company trumpets about "valuing employees", no matter what subjective grade you get in your review - you'll never, ever get rewarded appropriate unless you just swap jobs.

Performance reviews, from both sides (and I've also done both) are the most soul destroying bit of performance theatre in the corporate world!
