The Difficulty With Politicians

A rant on the state of the world, when we all just want to get on.

Admittedly picking faults with both the political system and the politicians that inhabit it is like shooting fish in a barrel in pretty much all countries whether the system is dictatorial, theocratic, autocratic, or democratic.

For some reason that makes me think of,

“Why, this car is automatic
It’s systematic, it’s hydromatic
Why, it’s greased lightning”

Though that’s pretty much as far as the lyrical comparison goes as it looks like the people working on that particular car actually know what they’re doing rather than politicians that, repeatedly, seem to exhibit the sense of not knowing what day it is and where they are rather than knowing what they are doing.

For fear of getting too deeply into specifics, I’d like to highlight the simple fact that the vast majority of politicians are uniquely unskilled to perform the role to which they have been assigned, cajoled themselves into, or been rewarded with (for various, previous, services to the administration involved).

Let’s add to that the other simple fact that the vast majority of politicians, at least in the allegedly democratic parts of the world with which I am myself familiar, that they are…
