The People I Connect With On LinkedIn
My own summary of what’s wired, tired, or should definitely be retired.

Not my usual choice of dystopian representative article image, I have to say, but I have good reason that shall become clear.
I know I’ve been writing about LinkedIn a little more than usual lately. For that I can only apologise if you’re tired of hearing about the modern day ‘Facebook for Jobs’ and tales of the various detritus that washes up in your browser when you start plumbing the depths of the site.
Thing is, as I’ve mentioned recently several times, it does highlight a lot of what’s wrong with recruitment in the grand game software engineering — as well as how dank and endlessly recirculated, rebadged memes, online certifications, and self-aggrandising comments and frankly unbelievable stories can really get out of hand.
However, I’m not going to lie and say I don’t use it. To me it’s akin to a rather smelly cheese — as in if you put up with the smell for long enough you’re able to move it close enough to your mouth in order to eat it, and get the benefit of the real flavour inside. Although, the metaphor does break down a little when it comes to the flavour, but I never seem to hit the great metaphors any more.
More specifically, and less cheesy in nature, it is a way to search out interesting jobs…
