Yes, I know, I know, as a rather vocal champion of remote working I realise the full dichotomy of the previous statement. But, it is sometimes necessary to attend such places in order that people remember who you are, why they employ you, and how important you actually are to the functioning of the organisation.
Management forgets these things easily, you see. This is easily demonstrated by their continual need to have us demonstrate our collective abilities and achievements during the same old tedious and time consuming performance reviews year after year. Either management and HR have a short term memory problem or they’re doing it deliberately. Personally, I think it’s both.
Anyway, there is often a free lunch involved that doesn’t include lukewarm and tasteless pizza, especially if it’s a smaller get together rather than the more usual managerial top-heavy all-hands type. Though, of course, as this is at management’s whim you’re as likely to…
