The whole Facebook / Meta 'metaverse' concept has two alarming flaws from a software engineering perspective.
1. Nothing I've seen of their endeavour so far in any way surpasses mid-range games from 10, maybe 20 years ago. Considering the time and resources poured into the project that's just bizarre - has all the money been spent on enabling micro-transactions, monetisation, and information gathering in the background?
In point of fact, any MMORPG from the last decade easily surpasses the lacklustre demonstration provided by Meta.
2. It's being 'made' by a company that is not exactly renowned for its practices when it comes to looking after users in terms of privacy, security, or honesty as the recent Cambridge Analytica settlement clearly shows.
Just my 2c, which I won't be spending in that metaverse!
