With pay and overtime it’s about give and take, completely, unless you’re a contractor who’s on the clock and if it isn’t paid for I’m not doing it.

Even with a permanent role there’s a limit to goodwill as often I’ve seen it become a habit — both with smaller and larger companies who expect unpaid overtime as a part of their ‘culture’ and your ‘commitment’.

No thanks. Goodwill doesn’t pay my internet bill nor does it put food on my table.

With the company wasting my time, I just hate that. I’ve only got this life and every second counts to me. If it’s a soulless job where I’m either twiddling my thumbs or watching YouTube, unless the pay is astronomical I’m just going to quit and find something fulfilling to do.

(Mind you even with astronomical pay it does grate after so long as your soul starts to leak out during work hours and at the end of the day you just feel useless. That might just be me!)
